The Devil Wears Prada 2 Premiere: A National Fashion College Student’s “Pinch Me” Moment

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT, KATE ROSSACK

The biggest “pinch me” moment of my life…

The original Devil Wears Prada film is arguably the most defining artefact of fashion pop culture from the 21st century; it shone the spotlight on a veiled industry, allowing the world to become invested in what happens behind the scenes. From design, magazines and events, it helped a generation to realise that high fashion, this “unreachable” world, does in fact involve us — as evident in the iconic cerulean blue sweater scene!

For me and many others, the first movie planted a seed that has now influenced our career goals for the future, truly inspiring us.

Some may call it awe, some may say determination and maybe, even desperation —whatever it may be, the Devil Wears Prada film is one of the reasons why many of us students are now pursuing what we love. When first seeing the film we thought, “that could be me one day”.

Having not only the opportunity be one of the first audiences in the world to see the sequel, but to also attend the premiere and walk the red carpet was truely phenomenal. I could not believe I was there, so much so that I can only describe it as an out of body experience!

So, what went on? The group of NFC students and I walked in, posing for photos as we walked the red carpet. Once inside, we saw a massive Devil Wears Prada shoe statue which was surreal (another fabulous photo op), and then waltzed our way into the theatre. To our surprise, we were welcomed with complimentary popcorn, champagne and a Mecca gift bag! The team that put this together really went above and beyond, we all appreciated getting a taste of fame for the evening.

Speaking of famous, we were surrounded by many influencers and familiar faces from the media world. We were also treated to a guest appearance from Patrick Brammall, the Australian actor that played Andy’s love interest!

I found the sequel to be the perfect continuation of the original film, with many callbacks and iconic moments; from famous lines to nostalgic scenes, fans of the original will definitely be satisfied.

The second film still gave me that same ambition-inspiring feeling, affirming my hopes and dream for the future as a young fashion girly. The original sparked my fashion dream, and the sequel has now reignited it.

Sitting in the theatre I began to realise, after watching this story for many years, that I am beginning to live it; having already started my journey in fashion, i’m so excited for what’s to come with renewed drive to make my dreams come true. I just know this film will inspire so many of the next-gen fashionistas, just like it did for me.

That’s all…
