National Fashion College Students Gain Real-World Experience at Australian Fashion Week 2026

WORDS BY NFC TEAM

The fashion industry came alive last week as the Australian fashion community gathered for one of the country’s most significant industry events: Australian Fashion Week, presented by the Australian Fashion Council.

For students at National Fashion College, the week offered far more than runway inspiration. It became an opportunity to gain invaluable real-world fashion industry experience through volunteering across some of the most exciting runway shows, presentations and activations on the Australian fashion calendar.

Throughout the week, NFC students immersed themselves in every corner of fashion event production, working alongside leading designers, creative teams and industry professionals. Students volunteered across:

  • Front of House

  • Public Relations

  • Production

  • Content Creation

  • General Event Support

These hands-on opportunities allowed students to experience the fast-paced realities of the fashion industry while building professional confidence, teamwork skills and valuable industry connections.

Why Fashion Week Experience Matters for Fashion Students

At National Fashion College, industry immersion is a core part of the student experience. Opportunities like Australian Fashion Week provide students with direct exposure to:

  • Fashion event production

  • Styling and model dressing

  • Fashion PR and communications

  • Fashion content creation

  • Runway operations

  • Creative direction and brand presentation

  • Networking within the Australian fashion industry

These experiences help students bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, preparing them for careers across fashion business, styling, marketing, media, events and creative production.

Building Industry Connections Through Australian Fashion Week

One of the most valuable aspects of volunteering at Australian Fashion Week is the opportunity to build meaningful professional relationships. Throughout the week, NFC students connected with designers, producers, publicists, media teams, stylists and fellow creatives working across the industry.

These connections often become important stepping stones for internships, future collaborations and career opportunities within the Australian and global fashion landscape.

National Fashion College and Industry-Led Fashion Education

At National Fashion College, students are encouraged to step beyond the classroom and gain hands-on experience through industry events, collaborations and live projects.

Seeing students represent NFC across so many major moments during Australian Fashion Week highlights the passion, professionalism and creativity emerging from the next generation of fashion industry talent.

We are incredibly proud of every student who contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm throughout the week and look forward to seeing where these experiences take them next!
