National Fashion College Students Assist at “Wuthering Heights”Sydney Premiere

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT AALIYAH GIBBONS

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi within arm’s reach distance of you; a complete pinch me moment, right? Thanks to the team at NFC I got to assist at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Sydney, allowing me to turn what I can only describe as a dream into my reality. From assisting across the final decorative touches to greeting and guiding high-profile celebrities, this experience is, without doubt, one I'll always remember!

Upon arrival to the State Theatre, the other NFC students and myself drifted together, finding each other and forming a group where we slowly made our way through the crowds to reach the premiere’s gorgeous ‘blue carpet’ set-up. We were immediately given our first activity, to help bring together the final details of the 18th century-inspired decorations. We were tasked with hanging the delicate jewels over the lamps along the fan barricade. As we worked together to make sure each lamp matched, the final touches quickly came together to enhance the stunning atmosphere. The electric energy, dedication and support from the other NFC students took my understanding and experience in event assistance to a whole new level.

From receiving our staff lanyards, to the walk across the media wall straight into the theatre, we found ourselves being briefed on the positions we’d be fulfilling on the carpet. With many opportunities such as front of house functions and content creation, we were all able to deepen our understanding of the event together. I was given the greeting and “mind your step” role positioned at one of the many entries, where I had the opportunity to take in the breathtaking dresses and suits. Greeting people such as Sophadopha and Bailey White, Laura Dundovic and Gemma Ward, directing them to the media wall at the theatre entry. The arrival of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi quickly followed, with the duo greeting fans and walking directly to the spot I was positioned at. It was here that I helped staff guide Margot down the carpet to the press, securing a front row position to watch each of her interviews.

From assisting behind the scenes with final details, greeting some of social media’s biggest names, and the friends I made along the way, all made the night even more memorable than it was already destined to be. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to gain more knowledge and understanding of event assistance for my future career. You literally never know what’s waiting for you just around the corner, especially at NFC!
