From a Student Perspective: NFC Students Attend RUSSH Magazine’s Creative Showcase 2025

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT, EMILY POLY-JONES

I recently had the pleasure of attending RUSSH Magazine's Creative Showcase.

When entering the event, we were greeted with a friendly face and gifted an instant Fujifilm ‘quick snap’ camera to take candid photos of the event. As a sponsor of the event, Camerahouse was present throughout the event, offering camera-related content and a photo booth, which brought the NFC students plenty of amusement.

Once we had drinks and appetisers, the talk began, the discussion among creatives within RUSSH Magazine, featuring Kitty Callagham and Hannah Cooper.

Throughout the discussion, there were insights into the debate of AI in the creative field, and how the conflicting subject would either hinder creators or advance their creative endeavours. All of the creators agreed on the use of AI as a positive ‘tool’, but recognised that every design content needs a ‘human touch’ to truly create a piece of art. After that insight, the 2025 Creative Showcase winners were given their rewards:

James Watts was under the judges' choice for 'High Fashion, It's A Flight Risk'.

Stephanie Pedersen under the readers' choice for 'The Female Gaze’.

And finally, Bianca Murphy under the editor's commendation for 'Maasai'.

From the viewpoint of a student, it was good to get further insight into the conversation of AI in the creative field, to see AI as something that can be utilised and not feared. Witnessing all the winners of the 2025 RUSSH Creative Showcase competition was inspiring, getting a glimpse of the up-and-coming future creators.
