My Experience at The Hollywood Reporter Australia Launch Event

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT RIHANA BUKOVAC

Stepping into the launch event for The Hollywood Reporter Australia felt like stepping into the heart of Australia's entertainment industry. The event brought together directors, writers, producers, actors and media professionals, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the relationships and collaboration that shape film and television. Being surrounded by so many creative minds made it an unforgettable experience and reinforced why I enjoy working in this industry.

Throughout the evening, I had the opportunity to film content for Paris Raine, Publisher of The Hollywood Reporter Australia. Working closely with her allowed me to capture key moments of the event while gaining valuable experience creating content in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.

A standout moment of the evening was the official reveal of The Hollywood Reporter Australia's debut magazine covers. As the issues were unveiled, it was exciting to see Josh Heuston and Phoebe Tonkin featured as the publication's first cover stars. Watching the room react to such a significant milestone highlighted the importance of the launch and marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Australian entertainment media.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the evening was seeing so many talented creatives connect in one space. Watching directors, writers and actors engage in conversations and celebrate the launch highlighted just how collaborative the entertainment industry is. It was inspiring to witness the people behind some of Australia's biggest productions networking, exchanging ideas and celebrating each other's work.

A personal highlight was meeting Thomas Weatherall, who plays Malakai in the hit Netflix series Heartbreak High. Having the opportunity to speak with him was exciting, especially as someone who has watched his work on screen. It was a reminder that behind the success of well-known actors are genuine, down-to-earth people who are passionate about their craft. Experiences like this make the industry feel both inspiring and accessible, and it was a memorable moment that added to an already incredible evening.

Beyond the glamour of the event, the launch was also an excellent networking opportunity. It allowed me to build new industry connections, observe how a major media event is executed and gain valuable hands-on experience creating content in a professional setting. Experiences like this continue to strengthen my passion for working across fashion, entertainment and media, motivating me to keep pursuing opportunities that challenge, inspire and help me grow.
