Editorial Styling and Fashion Industry Experience: MENS HEALTH MAGAZINE SHOOT

Last month, I had the opportunity to assist stylist Juanita Page on the cover shoot for Men's Health Australia. Editorial styling is an area I love and want to explore more, so it was very exciting to be assisting on a cover shoot for such a prevalent Australian magazine.

It was a perfect day to be shooting at Black Rock beach and the weather really turned it on for us. Meeting the team, everyone made me feel welcomed and there was a relaxed energy in the air which made me feel comfortable on set straight away.

We had an RV for the crew with a coffee machine and catering; it felt very professional, although I was told multiple times that this isn’t the norm at all and not to get used to it — haha. While the models arrived and got ready, we started pulling clothes, steaming each piece and organising three looks for each of the models.

Throughout the day there was a steady flow of outfit changes, individual shoots, and interviews, with the final group shots taken last. The models would return to the RV between takes for quick changes, creating a rhythm that felt organised and fast-paced without feeling rushed.

Juanita was amazing to work with; she encouraged me and was open to my suggestions for different pieces for the looks or poses to shoot. Being encouraged to contribute creatively helped build my confidence and made the experience feel collaborative, rather than just an observer or only helping with the practical things.

Opportunities like this through NFC are incredibly valuable because they provide direct exposure to the industry in a real working environment. You gain practical experience, build connections, and learn how professional creative teams operate day-to-day. It bridges the gap between studying and working professionally, while also helping build confidence and clarity around future career pathways.
