Behind the Scenes at the Sasha Therese Pop-Up: A National Fashion College Student's Fashion Retail Experience

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT SARAH PHUNG

When I found out I had the opportunity to work at the Sasha Therese pop-up, I was so excited. I had already been following and supporting the brand, so getting to work behind the scenes for a label I genuinely admired made the experience even more special. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was so welcoming and exciting. It was amazing to see how much work goes into bringing a pop-up to life and to be part of such a passionate team.

During my time there, I mainly worked in the fitting room, helping customers with different sizes and styles as well as returning garments to the shop floor to keep everything organised. I loved being able to interact with customers and help them find pieces they’re comfortable in. It was rewarding knowing that the little things — like quickly finding the right size or keeping the fitting rooms running smoothly — helped create a better shopping experience.

One of the biggest things I took away from this experience was just how important customer service is in fashion retail, every interaction really does make a difference. I also realised how much teamwork goes into making everything run seamlessly. Whether it was communicating with other team members, staying organised during busy periods, or helping wherever I was needed, everyone worked together to create a positive experience for customers.

One of my favourite parts of the day was seeing how excited everyone was to shop the collection. There was such a fun energy throughout the pop-up, and it was nice being part of that. It definitely got busy at times, especially when customers were looking for different sizes, but those moments taught me how to stay calm, work efficiently, and think on my feet.

Looking back, I can really see how my studies at the National Fashion College helped me prepare for this opportunity; learning about the fashion industry, customer experience, branding, and professionalism gave me the confidence to step into a retail environment and contribute to the team. It was rewarding to take what I have been learning in class and apply it to a real-world setting.

Overall, this experience reminded me why I wanted to study fashion in the first place. It gave me more confidence, allowed me to gain hands-on industry experience, and reinforced how much I enjoy working in customer-focused fashion environments. I’m so greatful to Sasha Therese and the National Fashion College for giving me this opportunity, and it’s made me even more excited about building a career in the fashion industry!
