Behind the scenes at nyfw
Words by NFC Student Bee
Starting at National Fashion College in July, I was so excited to see where the year would take me and to explore all the incredible opportunities ahead.
Getting to join the New York City trip in February as part of NFC’s Global Program was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Even now, two months later, it still feels surreal.
We had the chance to attend and observe an amazing lineup of shows including Alexander Wang, Heron Preston, Patbo, Puppets & Puppets, Kim Shui, Brandon Maxwell, Markarian, Mens Fashion Day, and Foo & Foo. Being able to witness these shows up close, from both backstage and front-of-house perspectives, was an absolute dream come true.
Throughout Fashion Week, we were invited to watch how PR teams operate, see photographers in action, and witness guest check-ins and VIP seating arrangements from an observational standpoint. Watching the full production process unfold - from show setup to execution and final pack-down - offered an incredible insight into the scale and precision behind these events. Every show gave us something different to witness and learn, which made the experience even more dynamic.
One of the most eye-opening parts of the trip was being surrounded by top professionals in the industry, observing how they worked and handled high-pressure moments. It was inspiring to simply be in the room and soak up the atmosphere, the energy, and the expertise.
Of course, I have a few standout memories. One was the Heron Preston show, where my friend Lily and I observed the team finalising the VIP seating and then watched the show unfold in real time - it was unforgettable!
One of my personal highlights was observing the production process of the Patbo show. With headsets and radios in use around us, we got a close-up view of how backstage teams manage model prep, timing, and show flow. Watching the coordination between producers, stylists, and the hair and makeup teams gave us such a deep appreciation for the precision and professionalism required to run a major fashion show.
This trip was everything I could have hoped for and more. Bryce has truly changed my life - not just through the course itself, but by creating opportunities like this one. Even though I used to live near New York and visited often, this trip was by far the most meaningful and memorable experience I've ever had in the city.
It was a dream come true - an unforgettable adventure I’ll carry with me forever. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
